As Life Goes: Elementary

as-life-goes FINAL cover large

SYNOPSIS – “Every new beginning starts from nothing. Understanding that you can have everything in the love of one person, isn’t that worth the risk of personal capital? Isn’t that kind of love worth it?” – Diane Wakeford

“Have I ever told you, you’re the nicest boy I’ve ever met?” – Melissa Bancroft

“I will have the friends I want. I don’t care what boy likes me or what boy I like. You’re an awesome friend. I am not giving you up because we’re going to different schools or for any one person either.” – Elizabeth Wellsworth

Mark Sanford returns to his hometown with his son Matthew in tow to rebuild their lives. Recently divorced, and with the mother totally abandoning her parental responsibilities, both father and son are beginning their fresh start together.

Matthew begins to make new friends in the neighborhood and at school while he tries to find his place among people that have been friends with one another for years at elementary school.

Mark takes over the reins of the former family corner store with the help of a young woman looking for work. The ability to love and trust that woman entering his life is difficult for him because of all he has lost. For Matthew, that “first love” is difficult to understand without a motherly influence and with a father that has been deeply hurt.

I, Hero: The Beginning

watching-over-the-city-edit1(1)

SYNOPSIS – An everyday man, living less than ordinary life in New York City, simply makes his way about his work life and one at home. A kind heart and an empathetic soul, who tended to think of others before he thought of himself.

With his childhood totally left behind and gone with the final resting of his father, Nathan has come to terms with his past as he forges his life in the present, unaware of what lies ahead.

An unlikely friendship, a random act of violence, a budding romance, all part of a life changed.

“When it’s your time, there’s nothing you can do to change that outcome. The only thing you can do is meet it head on. You have to hope that the life you had with others, while you were here, has made a positive impact.” – Brian Devron

“Where there is darkness, you are light. Where others know fear, you will be brave. When there are setbacks, you will persevere. Where others find weakness, you bring strength. Where there is despair, you are hope. Where cowardice falls, you rise courageously. Where others do not have the ability to believe, you have faith. You will suffer, so that others will endure. You will triumph where others would fall.” – Cici Johnson

“This is it; it all changes tonight. Anything I do tonight, at a minimum, is going to at least expose all of this to the world.” – Nathan Devron.

I, Hero: Nathan Returns

Nathan Returns

SYNOPSIS – Nathan is back in New York City; the place where it all started, nearly one year later. While he has been away, he has been establishing a base of operations and trying to follow the direction his life has taken – making a difference and answering the call for help where and when he is needed.

He has returned to this birthplace of his powers with more questions of why he is on the path he is on and what is expected of him.

During a dangerous rescue, his powers dissipate, and leave him critically vulnerable.

He connects back with old friends who help him rediscover the man he used to be to in order to help him be the man he has become and the man who he must be.

Magical forces come into play, pulling on nature itself, which introduces an unexpected challenge to Nathan while he is at this perilous juncture.

The pendulum swings even farther out of alignment; it is up to Nathan to respond before forces are set into motion that cannot be countered.

  1. Jason, first of all, you already know what I think of your kids…they are some of the most adorable, I’ve ever seen! I enjoyed this post but am a tad bit concerned (as it won’t be hard for a crazed admirer to find you, I mean you’ve given everything but your address here!) This post was awesome! I love the way you gave a synopsis AND a review that was given to your book! I’ve read ANOTHER SUNSET by the way, and loved it! Your book covers…simply amazing! And you followed instructions to the letter! Great job!

Now, let’s talk about you playing dress up…

Enjoy your fun day today, Jason!!! When I win, i’d like (another) SUNSET book, how about that? LOL

    • Hi Nonnie (being slightly funny) I hope I have issues with fanatics showing up at the door and matching sales to go along with it.

“you’ve given everything but your address here” – if you pop my name into a search engine, it will come up. I and so involved with my community on a civic level and then with the annual fundraising of the Independence Day celebration each year it’s basically unavoidable. It’s an opportunity to teach the kids to be safe and smart on a personal level when it comes to being cautious when meeting new people.

Thank you for the comments on my covers; I had “Another Sunset” done professionally (and I used it for the “Before Another Sunset” novella) but the others I did on my own.

All my kids, to one degree or another, like to play dress up but none of them have anything on Alex and myself 😉

      Thanks for stopping by!

    • Hi Stevie – I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed “Another Sunset”. Of my titles so far, and I’ve enjoyed writing them all, I really do believe if anything is going to be discovered, it will be that one.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Thanks Harmony for stopping by. I am sure I’ll be dropping “I,Hero: Nathan Returns” to you soon. I wanted it over to you this past weekend so you’d have it as soon as you freed up but I fell behind a tad and will need this week.

I guess I need a little less of an aggressive schedule 😉

  4. Wow, Jason! I knew you had little kids, but had no idea you have four. I think it’s awesome that you have been able to produce such great writing while still being the hero at home. Enjoy your special blog day! I hope you gain lots of new followers 🙂 If I win, I’d love a copy of I, Hero, since I’ve already enjoyed Another Sunset!

    • Hi Traci – yeah… we tried for a couple of years to have Andrew. Not that we minded “the practice” but it was like “is this going to happen”? Then it did and by the time Alex rolled around it was more like “where is the OFF switch”.

Being able to write over the summer is easier from the time perspective as they are all in Poland from the end of June until the end of August.

When they are here the remaining ten months of the year I stick to 2,000 words a day and I do everything I can to get those done on the train ride in and out of NYC (five hours round trip). Most days I can. When I can’t I let it go – tomorrow comes soon enough to pick back up.

Thanks for stopping by and good luck on the contest here.

    • Thanks Gordon – I decided with Amazon removing some reviews and such from their pages that I would do everything on my blog. This way, if they should be struck from Amazon, they still exist here on the blog and (generally) over at Goodreads too.

It also allows me the flexibility to copy and paste the review elsewhere (e.g. Barnes and Noble) upon request of the author.

    • Hi Bethany, thanks for stopping by. You’ll have to let me know when one of my books gets to your “next” slot so I can pay attention especially for your feedback.

I obviously want and need reviews and feedback for all my titles (as we all do) but I like to focus on our club specifically because I really do believe I get the best, no nonsense, honest feedback here.

      Thanks again for stopping by.

    • Thanks Tara; I have whole bunch of things they should do either.

“All my life has been trial and error and that has delivered success and failure, so let me show you what I learned, after the fact, NOT to do, so you can avoid some of the errors and failures.” – I say that to them a lot.

I hope to stay the hero they think I am right now their whole lives. I know it’s impossible to do but it won’t stop me from trying.

    • Thank you for stopping by. I am sure as soon as I get home I will get “how many likes were there?” or “how many people stopped on the blog?”

Andrew (my oldest) wants to start his own blog and Angela wants each of them to write a short story and to put them all in one book.

I’m encouraging that (as it will make so much money it’ll pay for their college 😉 )

    • Thank you – I am hoping for the same as well.

At the end of the day, if everyone enjoyed the stop and learned a little more about me and my stories, I’m good to go.

My kids are going to be excited at all the page hits today.

Andrew, at 11, understand the concepts so if it makes him interested in reading more or perhaps writing, that’s a bonus.

Angela is already a big reader. When I have to punish the boys it’s – “no computer, no computer, no computer.”

With her it’s “no books tonight.” (Oh man does she complain!)

  8. You have a very beautiful family, Jason – I loved the pictures! I’m impressed with your presentation format here with the attractive book covers, the blurbs, followed up with a favourite review! I’m looking forward to getting into your books – I love super hero stories!

    • Thank you John.

I hope you get the chance to check out the “I, Hero” series then. “The Beginning” is like any origin story, I am sure the pace is too slow for some and “off putting” but it’s necessary to give the hero and supporting characters their start.

I’ve gotten reviews all the way around on it so that makes me happy; detractors are only pointing out what I need to shore up and I am doing that in “Nathan Returns” due in the middle of September.

    • Hi Linda – thanks for visiting.

I would agree (and so would quite a few others) that “Another Sunset” is probably the best one to start with.

Thank you for commenting on all my covers. I paid to have “Another Sunset” professionally created but with respect to the rest, I did those myself.

The cover of “As Life Goes: Elementary” was shot around my hometown (by me) when I was 20 (there’s one shot there of the neighboring homes around my grandmother’s house when she lived there – I was up on the roof). I found the old black and white photos in a box and I placed them on my desk and took a photo of the photos and that is the cover for that book. 😉

In the South, we assume most northerners are too busy keeping warm and keeping up to show such genuine love for fellow man, but your books seem to bring out the best in humanity! They all look good and I loved your pictures! And you have wonderful reviews, which must mean you’re an excellent author. I definitely plan to sample your work!

    • Hi Ernestine, thank you for visiting today.

Yep – I’m a Red Sox loving “Yankee” from Connecticut. (Hey, nobody’s perfect).

I just received this review a few days ago (posted over on Goodreads) https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1193064506

Said with the utmost respect for my elders (I am 46 and the woman who read my book and left this review is a little older than my father), when I can impress someone from the Silent Generation, I feel like “I’ve done good”:

“I have read hundreds of books over my many years, but I cannot think of one that is as touching as ‘Another Sunset’. It is nearly impossible to put this book down – and leaves your heart breaking in so many ways even as you appreciate the kindness and love it portrays. Thanks to Goodreads for an unforgettable gift, and to Mr. Zandri for a wonderful novel. ”

Thanks again for the kind words and for stopping by today.

I had one reviewer that was so excited over “Another Sunset” that they basically gave away every plot twist in their review.

They just weren’t thinking; they were so excited over the story.

I was glad they were quick to edit it up and re-publish it.
